Week 2

Meet Crimson

Our Mission

We are going to build a car commercial by using our VFX technics and team work together in the next 10 weeks. 


Our idea is to put our vehicle in a dark forest scene, and show energy pulsing through organic objects, like trees or mushrooms. Plus we would like to create some glowing particles when the car is driving by, and make them show the flow of winds.  


We hope to create a visual experience full of magical power, and let the audience feel that riding a car through the forest is peaceful and enjoyable. 

Inspirations and References

In my preschool homework, I found two car advertisements. I really like the concept of combining the effect of lightning with the car. I think it is very futuristic and fits the concept of the car.

So when I first discussed with the team, I discussed my ideas with the team members and got their approval. So we decided on a general direction: put the car in a darker scene and combine it with glowing effects. 

 

Next, everyone went to find more references separately. We decided to use these two videos as our reference videos among many videos.

 

Their general visual imagery is forest, energy, and magic, and through these images, they convey a peaceful and beautiful experience.

Mood Board

After the first class, I found more picture references for everyone to share the same mood of what I feel. And I made a mood board for it.

I think mood board is important for the beginning of a project, especially the group projects. Even thought those images might not be the references of the project, they still help every seeing same picture and feeling. 

Storyboard

Since I am the only one had live-shooting experiences in our team, so I am going to responsible for shooting the background images.

So I need to clarified what shots in my mind with my team with a storyboard. We had a general talk about the storyboard in class, we all agree with just do 4 shots in our project and try to make them looks great.

After we decided which car we are going to use in our project, I went to Forza Horizon 5 to buy that car, and make a storyboard with their camera.

And my teammate Bua painted the effects on top of these pictures, that make the storyboard looks really great.

Location Scouting

We already know about our scene will be in the forest, and our shooting time will be around sunset to night.

So we collect those locations that have forest view together, and I decided go for a location scouting in the weekend.

 

 

I went to Wormsloe Park first, because its a famous park in Savannah, and will be hard to find another place like that. I arrived there around 7pm, which is the sunset timing. And I shoot some footage that match our storyboard, that way I can edit them like a previs. I just use my iphone to shoot, so the quality is not the best, but enough to watch.

The second place I went to is the Skidaway Island State Park, I choose there is because they have more nature forest view than other place. I arrived there around 8pm. The light is already getting dark, but the kay was very pretty. And same, I shoot some footage base on the storyboard. Footage are from iphone camera.
