FACING
Three months of daily self-portraits documenting the time before and after the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, I made a big decision, to study abroad, and would travel and live in a new country.
These one hundred and eight self-portraits are not only a showcase of my personal progress as a painter, but also an adventure through my inner world. When I began this project I had never painted a self-portrait. I used this project to develop my skills as an illustrator by painting a new self-portrait every day. I explored the possibilities of line and color to make my illustrations more accurate to my emotion. As I delved deeper into this project it became more about the importance of self discovery than improving my painting skill. I learned that to paint an honest portrait I had to remove all distractions one by one in order to look into my heart and find my own visual language.
